Ashura is observed by Muslims throughout the world, and falls on the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.  Eulogies and sermons were delivered honoring the memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain Ibn Ali.

Mourners in New Delhi and southern Hyderabad in India bled as they flagellated themselves to  show grief over Hussain’s death in 680, which symbolizes a wider struggle against oppression and tyranny for Shi’ite Muslims.
