After it was downgraded from a category 1 hurricane, Tropical Storm Henri landed on the coast of Rhode Island Sunday with high winds that caused blackouts to thousands of homes.

Rain and flash flooding also impacted Northeastern U.S. states from Massachusetts to New Jersey.

Winds reached up to 70 mph, the National Hurricane Center reported.

Many stocked up on supplies and boarded up their homes. This part of the United States rarely sees strong storms in the summer.

About 74,000 people were without power in Rhode Island, and 28,000 in Connecticut.

Several bridges and roads were also closed.
