California's Caldor Fire is threatening more than 34,000 structures as it burns closer and closer to South Lake Tahoe, a popular tourist destination.

As of late Tuesday, the fire is only 18% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Some 20,000 people have already evacuated the area.

Officials say the next couple of days will be critical for the region.
