UNESCO declares Peru’s Chankillo observatory a world heritage site

The Chankillo Astronomical Complex, a 2,300 year-old archeological site in Peru is believed to be the oldest solar observatory in the Americas. 

It was called a “masterpiece of human creative genius” by UNESCO which gave the site world heritage status along with 12 other global sites, in July.
