Deforestation of Brazil’s Amazon forest is at a record level, but in Rio de Janeiro, the mangrove forest ecosystem is on the mend, even in the face of urban mismanagement. 

It's a success story that is due almost entirely to the decades-long dedication of biologist and environmentalist Mario Moscatelli.
