The International Union for Conservation of Nature has announced updates to its Red List database of 138,374 species of animals.
The Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard is now considered endangered. It was previously listed as vulnerable.
The IUCN also reassessed of the world’s shark and ray species and found that 37 percent are now threatened with extinction due to overfishing, loss of habitat and climate change.
There was some good news for the seven most commercially fished tuna species. Four species showed signs of recovery.
Albacore, yellowfin, Atlantic bluefin and Skipjack tuna are listed as Least Concern.
Meanwhile the Southern bluefin, while recovering, is listed as Endangered.
The Pacific bluefin is listed as Near Threatened and the Bigeye tuna remains as Vulnerable.
