Fires in the Amazon rainforest are back this summer, well above the historic average for the third year in a row.

Satellites registered 28,060 fires in the Brazilian Amazon in August, according to Brazil’s national space research agency.

Many are blaming President Jair Bolsonaro for the destruction of the Amazon.

Indigenous groups are losing their lands, development has risen and environmental protections have been weakened.

Scientists fear Amazon destruction will impact global efforts toward limiting climate change.
