Flights and trains are cancelled, students have been sent home and two of the world's busiest sea ports in China are suspending operations, as typhoon Chanthu nears landfall in Shanghai and the surrounding region.

The typhoon already brought heavy wind and rain to Taiwan and is expected to do the same in Shanghai.

Afterwards, Chanthu is forecast to head toward Japan and South Korea.
