As taxis in Thailand sit idle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two taxi cooperatives are taking advantage of the additional garden space -- on the roofs of the cars. They are planting vegetables on taxi cabs in temporary retirement due to the pandemic.

Using garbage bags, bamboo frames and soil, the workers created free gardening space where tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans could grow. The project brings attention to the plight of drivers and operators who have been badly hit by the lockdown measures.

“The vegetable garden is both an act of protest and a way to feed my staff during this tough time,” Thapakorn Assawalertkul, the executive at the Ratchapruk and Bovorn Taxi cooperatives said.
