U.S. Congress attempts to revive eviction moratorium

There is a new effort in the U.S. Congress - to revive a federal moratorium on evictions during these pandemic times.

Its chances for passage though, are uncertain at best.

It follows the Supreme Court rejection last month - of the Biden administration's efforts to extend the emergency ban.

Some states and local jurisdictions still offer some eviction protection, but the clock is ticking on all of them, and there are mounting fears a surge in homelessness may come next.

In a new report, investment firm Goldman Sachs says as many as 750,000 U.S. households could face eviction by the end of the year - and up to 3.5 million people are behind on their rent.
