New research indicates wildfire smoke may increase risks of contracting COVID-19.

One report by Harvard University's School of Public Health says thousands of coronavirus infections in the U.S. last year may be attributable to smoke from wildfires, specifically the 'fine particulate matter' air pollution that the fires produce.

Similar findings come from a study by Nevada's Desert Research Institute.

CGTN's Ediz Tiyansan spoke with one of the scientists there about the correlation.
