California became the first state in the United States to bar mega-retailers from firing warehouse workers for missing quotas that interfere with bathroom and rest breaks. 

The new law seems to take aim at Amazon, as the retail giant expands its free overnight shipping services, while its warehouse injuries have reached unprecedented levels. 

Labor groups hail the move as a first step in the right direction, but some retailers are worried the measure could have an impact on the overall supply chain, which has already been struggling since the coronavirus pandemic.
