A new canoe-building project funded by the International Fund For Agricultural Development and the Tongan Government is putting the traditional knowledge of elders at the forefront of improving quality of life, for the islanders of Eua and marine life in the surrounding coral reefs.  

The ecosystems people depend on are now under increasing pressure. Many on the island are also unemployed.  The canoes will provide a sustainable way for islanders to fish and also gives them more access to healthier food instead of relying on processed imported goods.
