Fifty-five years after William Shatner first donned Captain James T. Kirk’s uniform, the "Star Trek" icon has finally made it to space and back.

He was part of a four-person crew that blasted off from Blue Origin’s West Texas launchpad on Wednesday, boldly going where few humans have gone before. Toni Waterman has more from Austin, Texas.

Shatner is now the oldest person to have flown to space, passing 82-year-old former astronaut trainee Wally Funk – who joined Blue Origin’s first-ever manned space flight in July – along with company founder Jeff Bezos.
