India celebrates 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses

Healthcare workers and citizens in India are celebrating a major milestone- the country administered one billion COVID-19 vaccines to the population, months after struggling to get the inoculation program off the ground.

While the campaign has covered three-quarters of the 944 million eligible adults, only 31 percent have two shots. The government is pushing for all adults to get completely vaccinated by the end of the year.

Almost 90 percent of the shots were produced by the Serum Institute of India, which produced a version of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Take a look.
