Lower-income neighborhoods in NYC more likely to be impacted by deadly heat

In New York City, there are two main ways that climate change is being felt: an uptick in hurricane-like storms that have caused flooding and power outages and rising heat.

Of the two – heat is the bigger killer.

In some parts of the city are locations known as “urban heat islands.”

The heat being experienced there has in disproportionate ways impacted people of color in lower-income neighborhoods much more than other neighborhoods.
