On October 25, 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the conference marking the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations and delivered an important speech in Beijing.

In the speech, President Xi Jinping reviewed what the past 50 years meant to China, to U.N., and to the entire world.

He stressed that the restoration of New China’s lawful seat in the United Nations was a momentous event for the world and the United Nations. It came as the result of joint efforts of all peace-loving countries that stood up for justice in the world. It marked the return of the Chinese people, or one-fourth of the world’s population, back to the U.N. stage. The importance was significant and far-reaching for both China and the wider world.

China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun also gave some remarks on the 50th anniversary and reflected on China's development over the past 50-years, and on its contribution to the organization.

"The past 50 years have been the historical process of China toward globally and prosperity. It contains profound connotations and principles. It has special significance for China, the United Nations, and the world, and it will surely be recorded in the annals of human history," Zhang said.

"Another conclusion reveals itself -- the country, the people and the Communist Party of China have selected the right path. We are confident and proud of that. History told us, a better China contributes to a better world," he added.
