The First Committee of the 76th United Nations General Assembly has passed a draft resolution submitted by China. "Promoting Peaceful Use of International Cooperation in the Field of International Security" indicates all countries have the right to exchange materials, science and technology for peaceful purposes. This is the first time China has proposed and promoted the adoption of a resolution on international arms control and disarmament issues in the United Nations in the past 30 years.
Geng Shuang, head of the Chinese delegation to the UN General Assembly and deputy-permanent representative to the United Nations, said that the world is undergoing a new round of technological revolution. “In the face of the technological wave, the peaceful use rights enjoyed by all countries should be respected and protected.”
26 countries including Cuba, Russia, Syria and Pakistan participated in the joint proposal of the Chinese resolution.
