This year, the U.S. has seen a record number of illegal migrants. 

Around 1.7 million migrants have been detained at the southern border in the last 12 months. 

But to get there most migrants had to endure a long and perilous journey through Latin America. 

One of the most dangerous parts is the border crossing from South to Central America, across the Colombia/Panama border.
