Residents in New Delhi India, and in cities across northern India, woke up to a blanket of toxic smog, following celebrations from the Diwali holiday.

The capital has one of the worst air qualities of any capital cities, but the celebrations from the festival, which includes setting off fireworks, have exacerbated the problem.
