Toxic air is blanketing New Delhi for a fourth day in a row. Air quality in the city had already reached 451 on the index (AQI) by 9:30 a.m. According to the Air Quality Index, readings below 50 are considers safe, while readings above 300 are hazardous. Some parts of the city reached levels as high as 627 after people used firecrackers during Diwali celebrations and farmers practiced stubble burning.
World leaders, including India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are currently meeting at the COP26 climate conference to discuss climate change and the environment. Modi has promised India will try to reach net-zero emissions by 2070.
