Former U.S. President Richard Nixon made historic trip to China

Three months after the U.S. table tennis team made a historic visit to China, then U.S. President Richard Nixon made history of his own, announcing he would travel to China to meet with the country's top leaders at the height of the Cold War.  

It was the first time a sitting U.S. President traveled to the mainland and that weeklong trip set the geopolitical adversaries on a path towards normalization.
