In an extravagant ceremony which in leaders, dignitaries, and artists, including singer Rhianna and Prince Charles, the former British colony Barbados became an official republic on Tuesday- the same day it marked the 55th anniversary of its independence from Britain.
The Caribbean nation’s Parliament voted for its first president last month, swearing-in Governor General Sandra Mason as the island's new leader.
