At least 13 civilians were wrongly killed by Indian security forces on Saturday night in an army patrol targeting militant movement in the northeastern Indian state of Nagaland near the Myanmar border.

The incident outraged locals to burn army vehicles and protest.

"The cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level," according to a statement by the Indian army.
