An overnight swath of tornadoes devastated parts of the American midwest, leaving at least 50 dead in the U.S. state of Kentucky.  Two storm-related deaths were reported in Tennessee. Two were killed and five were injured when a tornado hit a nursing home in the U.S. state of Arkansas.  Search parties are underway and the death toll is expected to rise.

U.S. President Biden said Saturday morning that he is working with the states’ Governors to ensure they have what is needed in the search for survivors.

Many homes were obliterated and freight trains were derailed in Earlington, Kentucky, where a main tornado moved 227 miles across the state.

The Governor of Kentucky Andy Bashear said Saturday he fears tornadoes in the U.S. state killed at least 70 people, and that the death toll may exceed 100.
