Migrants face possible detention if they’re caught without paperwork

Central American migrants who make it as far as ​Mexico's border town of Tapachula are ​relatively safe, but ​tread with caution beyond town ​limits, ​where migration authorities and national guard patrols are on the lookout.

Migrating through Mexico without a humanitarian visa is no longer permitted, and travelers found doing so end up in migration jail.

CGTN’s Alasdair Baverstock reports on the darker side of what happens if migrants are apprehended in Mexico without that paperwork.
