Many Chileans were in the streets on Friday celebrating the death of Lucia Hiriart, the widow of the country’s former polarizing dictator, Augusto Pinochet.
Hiriart was also a controversial figure, described as a philanthropist by some and distrusted by others for what they considered her influence on her husband, under whom more than 3,000 Chileans were murdered and disappeared between 1973 and 1990. Hiriart was 99.
