Nearly 40,000 volunteers gathered in Arlington National Cemetery in the U.S. state of Virginia on Saturday to lay holiday wreaths across more than 253,000 headstones of the military service members buried there.

It is the 30th annual event led by Wreaths Across America, which visit 3,100 cemeteries nationwide in an effort to honor fallen U.S. soldiers during the holiday season.
