Tackling climate change became the overarching focus for three major gatherings of global leaders in 2021.Debate on how best to address greenhouse gas emissions culminated with a series of pledges at the COP26 summit in November.  

Environmental experts say positive progress was made, but further work remains to be done in order to hit climate targets to reduce carbon emissions.
