California's Prevention of Cruelty to Farm Animals Act, known as Proposition 12, takes effect on Jan. 1. The law requires that pigs, chickens and calfs must have more room in their pens. Pig farmers have sued to the Supreme Court saying the state's rules will impact pork producers nationwide and say it will lead to price increases for all U.S. residents.
