California surpasses 6 million COVID cases

California, the biggest state in the U.S., has surpassed six million COVID-19 cases. 

The latest surge comes at a time of delayed school openings and staff shortages in many public and private institutions. 

On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom called on the National Guard to take up duty in dozens of new testing centers across the state.
