Limited money services were being restored in Tonga on Saturday, as the Pacific island continues to recover from the devastating volcanic eruption that triggered a tsunami felt as far away as Peru.
Restoring drinking water is the priority of the island. Relief supplies were flown in by Japan’s self-defense forces, and three flights from Australia carrying food, water, medical supplies and telecommunications equipment landed in Tonga on Saturday.
Peru has called for international aid as it continues to grapple with a large oil spill that occurred after abnormal waves from the tsunami spilled over 6,000 gallons of oil from a tanker.
