The oil painting, "The Battle of Songgu Peak," was created by Chinese contemporary artist Sun Lixin in 1999.

It describes the heroism of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) army during the bloody battle on Songgu Peak in the Korean War.

The Korean War between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) started in 1950.

At the request of the DPRK, more than two million CPV forces crossed the Yalu River to aid the DPRK's fight until a truce was signed in 1953.

In November 1950, the CPV drove the U.S. enemy from the Yalu River to the south of the Chongchon River.

That same month, the 113th Division of the 38th Army of the CPV was ordered to occupy Songgu Peak and prevent the U.S. from retreating south.

Songgu Peak, located in northeast Yongdong-ni, provides a commanding height and an excellent position to block the enemy.

Despite the disparity in military strength between the enemy and the People's Liberation Army, the 38th Army successfully defended the Songgu Peak.

The victory of the Songgu Peak campaign created a favorable situation for the Second Phase Offensive.

It also greatly boosted the morale of the volunteers and strengthened their determination to win the war.

China has never forgotten its heroes. The spirit of the CPV soldiers during the Korean War has inspired generations of Chinese.
