China's 'local veterans' of ice hockey take to the ice in Anshan
CGTN
Asia;Anshan, China

These men, amateur ice hockey players in their 50's and 60's, have been bringing their passion for the sport to the city of Anshan in China's northeastern province of Liaoning for more than three decades. By day, some of the men are blue-collar workers or civil servants, one is a police officer, others have retired.

These local hockey veterans play on a makeshift hockey rink on frozen lakes in city parks every year and will often square off against other local 'veteran' teams from Liaoyang, Shenyang and Dalian. Their lifelong enthusiasm for the sport is unique since China does not have its own ice hockey league. It does have an Olympic team, currently ranked number 32 globally, that will be competing in Beijing 2022.
