Bogota will not be hosting its annual bullfighting season, which animal rights activists consider a historic win thanks to new legislation.

The Santamaría Bullring will not host any bullfights this year, that is because for the first time in the country’s history, no private company presented itself for a chance to organize and sponsor the event.

But Colombia hasn’t banned bullfighting. It created a local law that discourages third parties from hosting the event. A list conditions were put forth such as using 30% of its marketing funds towards anti-animal cruelty campaigns.

CGTN’s Michelle Begue reports.
