In just over a month, the U.S. state of California has reached multiple milestones in its fight against COVID-19. 

Having recorded six million total cases in early January, the state has now surpassed eight million. 

The sudden rise in hospitalizations has also taken a toll on medical resources, as well as healthcare workers.
