The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is facing backlash from politicians and human rights groups for testing robotic dogs at its border with Mexico.

The plan, outlined in a blog post, is for the robots to help video-surveil and scan the inhospitable border region.

U.S. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez slammed the move as "shameful" and called for funding to be taken from "corrupt military contracts" to fund healthcare and housing.
