CGTN

Bolivia’s main carnival, the Oruro Carnival, kicked off Saturday, with devotional dancing to the Virgin of Socavon.

The carnival was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001.  Miners on the outskirts of Oruro took part in a ritual ceremony involving llama sacrifice to thank the “Pachamama” (Mother Earth) at the Itos mine.
