A small caravan of terrified lions and tigers made it safely across the Polish border Thursday after being rescued from Kyiv, Ukraine, where heavy fighting was threatening their sanctuary.
Poland’s Poznań Zoo announced on their Facebook Thursday that the animals had arrived safely after a harrowing six-day journey across war-torn Ukraine.

Two adult tigers and two tiger cubs, six lions, an African wild dog and a capuchin were selected for the journey from more than 80 animals at the sanctuary because they were the most likely to survive.
