U.S. President Biden delivered remarks at an event celebrating the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) on Wednesday in the East Room at the White House.
The reauthorized act expired in 2018, and was a 1994 law that created grant programs for states to provide services and housing to victims of abuse, as well as professional training to improve the legal system’s responses to domestic violence.
VAWA is part of the $1.5 trillion government funding bill that Biden signed into law on Tuesday. American actress and UN special envoy for refugees Angelina Jolie attending the event at the White House, saying the reauthorized law was “personal.”
