The painting, “Excellent Representative of Intellectuals - Huang Danian” was created by Wang Xiaoming, Zhang Weishi and others in 2017.
The painting was based on Geophysicist Huang’s deeds during his lifetime and depicts his sincerity and dedication to serve the country.
Born in 1958, in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Huang Danian had an interest in geophysics from an early age.
Huang went to the United Kingdom for further study in 1993.
In 2019, Huang quit his job in the UK, and returned to the motherland without hesitation.
Huang was invited to be the chief scientist of China's biggest deep-Earth exploration program at Jilin University in Changchun, in northeast China.
The project aims to install high-tech cameras on aircraft, ships and satellites, allowing them to see through the Earth's crust.
Despite the many benefits of underground mineral and seabed exploration, China still lags far behind the rest of the world in this field.
Through Huang and his team’s efforts, China has narrowed the gap with developed countries in obtaining accurate data on deep-Earth exploration.
Meanwhile, Huang also attaches great importance to the training of national young scientific researchers.
Due to perennial fatigue, Huang died of bile duct cancer on January 8, 2017, at the age of 58.
Subsequently, Huang Danian was awarded the honorary titles of "Model of the Times" and "National Outstanding Communist Party Member."
Huang's spirit inspired many Chinese scientists, and thanks to them, China is now becoming a leading power in many technologies.
