Madagascans struggling with four years of drought and deforestation

Over one million people in southern Madagascar are dependent on food deliveries from the UN’s World Food Program.  

Red sand is blowing everywhere in a once-fertile corner of the country after four years of drought linked to climate change, the UN says.  

Deforestation caused by people cutting trees down for charcoal and farmland has transformed the Androy region into a dust bowl.
