CGTN America Digital

Ballot officials in East Timor are counting votes from Saturday's presidential elections. Frontrunners include former President Jose Ramos-Horta and incumbent President Francisco “Lu Olo” Guterres.

Also in the running are four women, the highest number of female representation since East Timor gained independence from Indonesia 20 years ago.

Officials results are expected Thursday and the winner will take office on May 20, the anniversary of the country's independence.
