U.S. border agents and advocates are preparing for a potential rollback of pandemic-related immigration restrictions by the Biden administration.

Title 42 blocked many migrants from entering the U.S. during the Trump administration and was an emergency provision to limit the cross-border spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Nearly 1.7 million migrants were sent to Mexico or back to their country of origin since March 2020.

The Homeland Security Department is bracing for an influx of up to 18,000 arrivals per day if the ban is lifted.
