Muslims attend evening prayers as Ramadan begins

The sun set on the first day of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan on Saturday as people attended evening prayers known as 'Tarawih.'  

The new moon visible from Mecca starts the Islamic month of fasting, where Muslims  to abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours.
