Mexican truck drivers are protesting new rules imposed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Last week he ordered officials to begin conducting "enhanced safety inspections" at the U.S./Mexico border.

The new rules are slowing traffic and drivers say crossing times have increased significantly, impacting their earnings, Reuters reports.

Drivers are parking their trucks and blocking bridges into the U.S. Experts warn delays at border crossings are also affecting the supply chain.

Abbott says he ordered authorities to do the "enhanced safety inspections" to uncover smuggling and contraband, Reuters reports.

The Mexican National Chamber of Freight Transportation estimates delays at a bridge between Reynosa, Mexico and McAllen, Texas is costing $8 million per day.

They're calling for Abbott to end the order.
