After a two-year hiatus, Rio de Janeiro’s famous samba school parade is underway at the Sambodrome, the city’s samba stadium.

Last year, it was canceled altogether, and this year’s was postponed by two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time, it is taking place in April, but as usual, the samba schools are using it as a platform for protest.
