The U.S. House of Representatives passed significant gun-regulation legislation on Friday, something that hasn’t happened in the last 30 years.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is expected to be signed quickly into law by President Biden. The 234-193 House vote came a day after a 55-33 Senate vote to pass the bill, and also closely followed a Supreme Court ruling that broadly expanded gun rights in the country.

Law enforcement groups have backed the measure, the first of its kind in the wake of several mass shootings. The passage of the bill is still considered by some Democrats as a modest first-step toward better gun regulation in the country, but was undoubtedly a celebrated move by advocates who seek to reign in assault weapons manufacturers and the reach of National Rifle Association lobbyists.

The White House acknowledged Thursday that the bill does not include additional important steps the President has called for as part of his comprehensive gun crime reduction agenda, but says it will make meaningful progress to combat gun violence in the U.S. So what reforms are included in the bill?
