Women crossing state lines for abortion

30-year-old “F”, a homemaker dependent on her husband's income, saw it impossible to have her eighth child. Three weeks of agonizing about what to do eventually led her to the same conclusion: "I can't have this child."

But after Friday, she encountered another issue. Although the majority of Americans favor abortion rights, F's home state of Texas just made it far more difficult to get an abortion.

Texas is one of several conservative regions of the United States where the political tide has turned against the procedure. Since most women don't realize they're pregnant until six weeks in, a new rule prohibits practically all abortions after that point, which means that in Texas, ending a pregnancy frequently requires leaving the state.

That will be the reality for millions more women as a result of Friday's Supreme Court decision, which invalidated the federal right to an abortion and granted states the authority to adopt severe restrictions or complete bans.

It is only a 45-minute journey for "F" from her home to the reproductive clinic in New Mexico, but for others, the distance is much further and the cost could be too much to handle.
