Hundreds of Mennonites, a secretive Christian community, have started three new colonies in the Peruvian Amazon.
Members of this austere group recently migrated to Peru from Bolivia and Belize, where they have long-established populations.
But now they’re being investigated by prosecutors in Peru, accused of illegally deforesting more than 34 square kilometers of rainforest over the past five years.
